Periodontal disease (gum disease) begins without warning. In early stages, the disease causes sore gums that bleed easily. As it progresses, teeth loosen and are eventually lost. Recent studies have shown that the bacteria that cause gum disease can travel throughout the body and can contribute to coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes , and low birth weight. Dr. Anderson incorporates a periodontal evaluation into each visit. If there is an indication of gum disease, he will discuss the necessary treatment with you to restore your mouth to optimum health.

Periodontal (gum) disease self test

Do your gums bleed when brushing of flossing?

Do you have persistent bad breath?

Are your gums hurt or are they tender?

Are your teeth loose?

Do you have gum recession or "long teeth"?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, chances are good you have gum disease. Remember, your head doesn't bleed when you brush it, so why should your gums.
